Gurudwara Bangla Sahib - Top Places to Visit in New Delhi

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is the most prominent Sikh gurdwara, or Sikh house of worship, in Delhi, known for its association with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, and the pond inside its complex, known as the “Sarovar”, whose water is considered holy by Sikhs and is known as “Amrit”. It was first built as a small temple by Sikh General, Sardar Bhagel Singh in 1783, who supervised the construction of nine Sikh shrines in Delhi in the same year, during the reign of Mughal Emperor, Shah Alam II.
</sup>

It is situated near Connaught Place, New Delhi and is instantly recognisable by its stunning golden dome and tall flagpole, Nishan Sahib.

This is one of the most popular sikh religious place in Delhi and every person can visit this temple. A visit to the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib in the heart of Delhi is always a blissful experience.

The very entrance to the Gurudwara is so majestic that you feel humbled. The walk up to the main entrance is very calming and as you enter the precincts, the chanting of hymns totally captivates you. Its only when you have entered inside, one realizes the sheer enormity of its wide expanse. The beauty of this holy place is that it is visited by people of all castes and creed. The crowds are well managed and all support functions like car parking, shoe racks, water and prasad distribution are all managed by the sangat.

The Nishan Saheb outside is a towering monument and one can see it from a great distance. An ongoing Langar keeps the visitors engaged and the sarovar (Pond) besides the Gurudwara provides an opportunity to the visitors to take a holy dip.

Things to Do here: If you have never experienced it, try out the “langar” – a community kitchen where you can have a meal (it’s absolutely free – always and for everybody)
